Lesson 3 – Making Plural

 

If you want to turn the word to plural, you add –ler, -lar…

 

If the last vocalic is a,ı,o,u ; you add –lar

If the last vocalic is e,i,ö,ü ; you add –ler

 

Ağaç = Ağaçlar (Tree = Trees)

Kalem = Kalemler (Pencil = Pencils)

Cetvel = Cetveller ( Ruler = Rulers)

Çiçek = Çiçekler (Flower = Flowers)

Kitap = Kitaplar (Book = Books)

 

When you describe a few objects…

 

Ağaçlar yeşil, turuncu değil.  (The trees are gren, they are not orange.)

Kalemler uzun, kısa değil.  (The pencils are long, they are not short.)

Çiçekler mor, sarı değil.  (The flowers are purple, they are not yellow.)

 

But when you say,

 

Üç araba (Three cars)

İki çiçek (Two flowers)

You don't put -ler/-lar to the word.
